The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) today announced two new Pilots And Trial Hotspots (PATH) Assessment Centres for software and services under the recently expanded S$48 million PATH initiative budget. The two centres are Application Service Provider Centre (ASP Centre) and the NYP-Cisco IP Convergence Lab.
Each of the PATH Assessment centres will contribute consulting personnel as well as incubation, piloting and test-bedding facilities to qualifying projects. They will autonomously source, screen, evaluate and recommend to IDA potential PATH projects based on IDA's guidelines. These guidelines cover the PATH initiative's objectives, focus areas and strategic thrusts.
The ASP Centre will focus on evaluating proposals from ASPs and related XSP service delivery projects such as ASP Aggregators, Managed Service Providers, and others.
The NYP-Cisco IP Convergence Lab meanwhile, will devote its attention to projects involving the development of innovative Internet business solutions for converged data, voice and video networks. The new lab will use the latest XML (Extensible Markup Language) and IP Convergence technologies and leverage Cisco's AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data) to develop new Internet business solutions, including IP telephony for unified messaging and customer care, content delivery for rich media, e-learning, and supply chain management.
"The setting up of competency centers like the ASP center and NYP-Cisco IP Convergence Lab leverages the technology expertise and market access of strategic industry partners to ensure the quality of innovation and the sustained impact of supported projects," said Mr Khoong Hock Yun, Assistant Chief Executive, IDA.
"The appointment of these centers as PATH Assessment Centers further recognises their potential in working with our industry in developing innovative products and services. These centers encourage the industry to 'take bets' in innovative projects in Singapore by making both the technology and the funds quickly available for companies with highly innovative projects. This is in line with our desire to position Singapore as an ideal location for the forging of innovative Infocomm partnerships and propagating leading-edge technologies," added Mr Khoong.

Pilot and Trial Hotspots (PATH)
PATH is an industry development initiative that accelerates the development of innovative Infocomm infrastructure, applications and products. It facilitates this by supporting the trial and piloting of emerging infocomm technologies and best-of-breed services.
First launched in May 2001, PATH initially covered Wireless developments. It has been expanded to include other Infocomm Technology areas in Broadband and other Software & Services. Examples include application outsourcing, speech and language, and XML web services.
By expanding PATH, Singapore-based companies are encouraged to adopt infocomm innovation as a key to world-class standards in the development of new Infocomm technologies and services.
