To encourage and facilitate collaboration between Singapore and Chinese infocomm companies, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has set up an office in Shanghai. The IDA office in Shanghai is its first in China. Located at Plaza 66 along Nanjing Xi Lu, it is set up as the Infocomm Section under the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore.

Commenting on the set up of the Shanghai office, Mr Leong Keng Thai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the IDA said, "The set up of the IDA office in Shanghai is timely and appropriate, as China continues to be one of the key markets for Singapore's infocomm companies. With our office now in Shanghai, it provides a platform for us to facilitate Singapore infocomm business venture into growth markets like China. We look forward to both countries sharing capabilities and experiences, which will lead to further infocomm developments and innovations in the region."

The roles of the Infocomm Section are as follows:

i) Facilitate Networking
- Together with IDA Singapore, the Infocomm Section will identify and invite distinguish visitors from China to Singapore for networking sessions. These include exchange programmes, special infocomm projects, lectures and seminars, which will allow the sharing of experience from expertise of both countries; and - The Infocomm Section will also widen the networks of local infocomm business associations and societies in China.

ii) Foster Partnerships
- With IDA Singapore, Infocomm Section will organise infocomm business missions for Singapore local infocomm companies to explore business partnerships in China;
- Infocomm Section will promote bilateral infocomm business investment between the two countries;
- Explore multilateral partnerships, taking advantage of Singapore's connections with infocomm companies around the region and the world; and
- To promote Singapore infocomm industry in China and encourage Chinese infocomm companies to visit Singapore, and form strategic alliance with our local infocomm companies.

iii) Promote Singapore Infocomm Industry
- As the Infocomm Section represents IDA in China, the office will organize events to raise awareness of Singapore's infocomm industry and position Singapore local infocomm companies positively in the Chinese market.

The Infocomm Section in Shanghai is headed by Consul (Infocomm) and Centre Director, Mr. Mok Boon Poh (See Annex 1 for bio-data of Mr. Mok).

Annex 1: Bio-Data of Mr. Mok Boon Poh

Mr. Mok Boon Poh is the Consul (Infocomm) of the Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai, as well as the Centre Director, Shanghai Office, of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

He is responsible for IDA's initiatives to promote bilateral infocomm industrial business exchanges between China and Singapore. He also works closely with both Chinese and Singapore infocomm enterprises to assist in their bilateral business and investment activities. Mr. Mok brings with him more than 10 years of international industrial experience from the private sector. Prior to his IDA appointment, Mr. Mok worked with Motorola for 7 years. He was the Regional Marketing Manager overseeing the Asia Pacific Wireless Infrastructure Marketing and Business Development activities, with special interest in China. Overall, he has accumulated substantial experience in China business.
