Winning Visions of a Colourful Infocomm Future for Singapore Presented Through Poetry, Multimedia, Essays and Drawings.
More than 3,000 entries were received over two months in a competition to get people in Singapore to share their vision of how they expect Infocomm technologies will impact their lives in the next 10 years.
The top 9 winners of the competition, called Express IT! iN2015, received their awards from Senior Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts, Dr Balaji Sadasivan, at the NTUC Centre Auditorium yesterday, 17 Nov.
In his address to an audience made up of students, the public and industry, Dr Balaji said: "Many ideas were interesting and well-considered and they reflected a personal need for Infocomm technologies to play a more vital role in education, health care and transportation."
The competition, launched on 6 May 2005, sought views from the public on the topic "Infocomm and I in 2015: How Technology can Help Me Learn, Work and Play". Entrants could submit their visions through a range of mediums such as essays, drawings, cartoons/illustrations, digital photographs, digital videos/multimedia, songs and audio narrations.
The event is part of efforts to engage the People, Private and Public sectors to pitch ideas for the iN2015 Infocomm masterplan. iN20151 is 10-year roadmap to grow the Infocomm sector here and to enable a well-connected society through Infocomm technologies. It will be launched in 2006.
Express IT! iN2015, which ended on 22 July 2005, drew entries across three categories, with 60% coming from primary schools, 18% from secondary schools and pre-university institutions, and 22% from the Open category.
One of the winners, Kean Lin Weijun, 10, said: "In 2015, I hope there will be virtual reality games. It's more fun than Xbox. Infocomm will make our dreams come true."
His entry, a drawing of the digital future, earned him the top prize of $3,000 in the primary category, as well as $10,000 for his school, Xingnan Primary. Other winners went away with prize money of between $500 and $8,000, the latter being the cash award for the winner of the Open category, Ms Jacqueline Aw. The winners, along with 21 merit award winners also received trophies yesterday for their efforts.
The entries were judged based on their creativity, practicality and clarity of presentation. They were also judged based on whether the idea, if realised, can impact society positively.
Express IT! iN2015 was jointly organised by IDA, Singapore Computer Society (SCS) and Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), with support from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Digital Life.
All the Express IT! iN2015 entries can be viewed online at https://www.imda.gov.sg/. The winning entries can also be seen as they make their rounds across five libraries - National Library at Bras Basah, Marine Parade Community Library, Woodlands Regional Library, Tampines Regional Library and Jurong Regional Library - over the next three months.
