Singapore, 28 March 2006 | For Immediate Release

The Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), Asia's largest infocomm and media event takes place from 19-23 June 2006 in Singapore. This event attracts international business leaders, Ministers from the region, infocomm policy makers, C-Level Executives, enterprises and industry professionals - a testament to Singapore's position as a leading infocomm and media hub in the region.

The week-long imbX showcases a rich spread of technologies through a series of exhibitions, conferences and meetings. CommunicAsia, EnterpriseIT and BroadcastAsia will come together at the Singapore Expo along with a series of Digital Media and Entertainment conferences such as the third-year running Asian Digital Cinema Summit, an Animation & Visual Effects Seminar and a Digital Living conference that explores trends in digital homes and lifestyle.

imbX will also play host to thought leadership forums, international alliances and inter-government meetings. These include the iX 2006 Conference, CommunicAsia2006 Summit, BroadcastAsia2006 International Conference, the imbX Ministerial Conference on ICT, the Euro Southeast Asia 2006 Information & Communication Technologies Forum, the Asia Pacific Telecommunity forums and the iN2015 Business Forum.

In addition, imbX provides a platform for student discussions on the future and benefits of technological advances through the iX 2006 - Singapore Management University (SMU) Student Seminars, held at the university's city campus.

Government-Industry Exchange

This year, imbX will again host the Ministerial Forum on ICT, a gathering of Ministers and their representatives from countries across Asia. Last year's inaugural forum saw ICT Ministers and senior government officials from 11 countries in the region engaged in a fruitful discussion with the industry on the challenges brought about by the emergence of VoIP.

This year, the forum is expanded to include government officials from more countries and the topic for this closed-door forum will be "Next Generation Networks (NGN) - Opportunities and Challenges for Governments". imbX is an important forum where government officials can keep abreast of new technologies offered by the industry.

imbX will also host the Euro Southeast Asia 2006 Information & Communication Technologies Forum that provides a business platform for stakeholders from Europe and Southeast Asia to discuss ICT policy and regulatory issues between the two regions.

Business Platform

Together, CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT will house a projected 2,238 exhibiting companies from 54 countries/ regions. The exhibitions showcase a wide range of technologies that will impact and shape our future including WiMax, 3G, NGN, VoIP, mobile entertainment, enterprise applications, digital multimedia broadcasting, Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB), Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), digital cinema, High-Definition TV, IPTV, interactive TV, as well as computer graphics and animation technologies.

"We are expecting several of these technologies to become even more prominent this year and transform the way we work, live and interact. With that in mind, CommunicAsia, together with BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT, is the ideal platform to launch and showcase these new technologies and services to the world," said Mr Stephen Tan, Chief Executive of Singapore Exhibition Services.

"CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT are the most established events for infocomm and broadcasting technologies in Asia and their showcase are geared towards addressing the future and the business of technology," he added.

Thought Leadership

"The annual iX conference facilitates intellectual exchange of ideas and views on infocomm technology issues faced by businesses in both Singapore and the region, and promote Singapore as a leading force in global industry trends. This year, iX will explore the global phenomenon of the invasion of consumer applications and collaborative technologies at the workplace, and we are excited to have distinguished industry figures such as Marissa Mayer of Google as guest speakers at iX 2006," said Mr Stephen Lim, Chairman of the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF).

The iX 2006 conference, organised by the SiTF on 21-22 June, will explore how peer-to-peer consumer technologies such as instant messaging, wikis, and Internet telephony are transforming the enterprise. With the theme "ICT at Work - Collaboration and Peer-to-Peer Technologies", delegates can learn from top ICT business leaders and apply key principles of innovation. World-class industry experts, including Marissa Mayer, Vice President for Search Products and User Experience at Google, and Co-founder of Cerulean Studios, Scott Werndorfer, will keynote the conference. Launchpad for New Initiatives

Augmenting its leadership position in the region, Singapore will officially launch the Intelligent Nation (iN2015) masterplan during imbX.

"The iN2015 masterplan will chart out Singapore's infocomm developments over the next ten years. It aims to lay a firm infocomm foundation for Singapore and identify how infocomm technologies will help transform key economic sectors in Singapore," said Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

The Importance of imbX

The stakeholders in imbX are the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) and Singapore Exhibition Services (SES).

imbX underlines Singapore's standing as a regional infocomm and media hub and a launch pad for new technologies. With the convergence of innovations, thought leaders, businesses and decision-makers, Singapore takes another step forward in setting itself as the hub where different streams of technology converge in a meaningful, significant whole.

"Events like imbX and BroadcastAsia provide an excellent platform for Singapore media companies to showcase their products and most importantly to break into international markets. The development of new media technologies such as DAB, DVB and IPTV has opened up business opportunities for Singapore companies, in the likes of SPL Innotech, Innoxius Technologies and GoMobile," said Mr Lim Chin Siang, the MDA's Director of IT and Technology.

"These companies are making waves with significant progress and by staying in the forefront of new technologies. For example, Innoxius Technologies has developed and marketed the region's first multi-standard SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output) receiver for T-DMB (Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld). Such success stories and events like imbX help to spur the MDA's vision in transforming Singapore into a global media city," added Mr Lim.
