Singapore, 27 January 2007 | For Immediate Release

There was a disruption on the East Asia Crossing submarine cable system early this morning.  This may have affected Internet surfing, but not on the scale as seen during the recent disruptions caused by an earthquake in Taiwan last December.

The Internet and other telecommunications traffic have been largely normal for most users in Singapore this morning.

Still, contingency plans have been activated to restore affected traffic. The IDA has also requested SingTel to assist StarHub to work together to divert traffic to the unaffected cables and both parties are doing so to ensure normalcy in telecommunication traffic.

We will provide further updates, if necessary.
