Singapore, 22 March 2009 | For Immediate Release

A Large Delegation Of 18 Singapore-Based Companies Participates In Game Developers Conference 2009; Companies To Launch New Services And Game Titles At The Leading Games Conference

Singapore-based companies from the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) sector continue to see business opportunities overseas and hope to gain a share of the global gaming industry. A large delegation comprising 18 IDM companies and four tertiary education institutions will be participating at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco under the Singapore Pavilion from 23 - 27 March 2009 (Booth 8740). Four companies will be launching their new services and game titles at the show. The Singapore Pavilion is organised by the trade association for Singapore’s games industry Games Exchange Alliance (GXA), and supported by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore. It is the second time that Singapore is participating as a Pavilion at GDC and is larger than last year’s 13-company delegation. (Please refer to Annex 1 (13.78KB) for list of participating companies.)

Said Mr Aroon Tan, President of GXA, "GXA works closely with agencies like IDA Singapore and IE Singapore to help promote the products and services of our Singapore IDM players, comprising games developers, publishers / distributors and service providers. As part of our association's commitment in assisting the local gaming companies to grow their businesses in Singapore and beyond, GXA always stands as a united organisation representing the entire spectrum of the gaming industry so as to better facilitate interaction amongst one another."

"Although the economic downturn has caused an impact on the general business climate, the gaming industry still possesses opportunities for the IDM sector as online and interactive digital games remain popular. In fact, during the downturn, more people might turn to gaming as an alternative leisure activity since the relative low cost makes it easily accessible," added Mr Tan.

The GDC 2009 is an excellent platform for companies to showcase their offerings and network with leading global game companies. Tertiary education institutions are participating in the Singapore Pavilion for the first time. The institutions aim to raise awareness of their IDM-related courses and talents in games development on a global platform. Visitors to the Singapore Pavilion will be able to learn about Singapore as the gateway to English speaking markets in Asia for developing, managing and distributing games contents and related services. Singapore’s robust infrastructure and strong IP regime gives international games companies a conducive environment to hub, manage and distribute their games to the region.

Singapore-based company, Activate Interactive, will be releasing two new browser-based online game titles in GDC 2009. The first game "Fish-a-Fish" engages players in exciting fishing actions together with their friends. It provides avatar customisations and players can decorate their aquariums with their catches. Fish-a-Fish will first be available on Facebook and subsequently ported to other social networks. The second title “Jovi Bears", is a multi-player online game created specially for children.

Another two games developers Personae Studios and Camelot Hobbies will be jointly releasing a new iPhone game titled “Travel Conundrum”.
