Enhancements and New Services Allow Users Even More Seamless and Fun Surfing and
An Innovative Platform for Businesses

From today, all Wireless@SG users will be able to enjoy faster and easier access at most Wireless@SG hotspots around the country.

The free Wireless@SG service, with its access speeds doubled from 512 kbps to 1 Mbps in September 2009, will now be even easier to access with a new automatic log-in feature. This new feature, called Seamless and Secure Access (SSA) enables an "always on" experience by automatically connecting and logging into the network when the user's device is at a Wireless@SG hotspot. This means users of the network would not have to re-enter their credentials each time they log-in, in order to access applications like VoIP, instant messaging and
social networking.

Users can easily configure their Wi-Fi enabled mobile devices or notebooks to make use of this new feature by downloading and installing the new Wireless@SG Connect software or by following the instructions available from the respective Wireless@SG operator websites (iCELL, M1 and SingTel). Through Wireless@SG Connect, users will find a suite of personalised services and applications such as a Wireless@SG
hotspot finder.

The SSA feature is being progressively deployed to all Wireless@SG hotspots around Singapore and full deployment can be expected by September 2010.

With the pervasive availability of Wireless@SG today, businesses and property owners can also consider leveraging it to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for their businesses. This includes a range of new services, offered through the Wireless@SG operators, such as advertising, facility monitoring and location-based services. The latter, powered by a new Centralised Location-based Engine (CLBE) will allow application developers to provide users with location specific information based on Wireless@SG hotspot locations. For instance, if a user is on a particular floor of a shopping mall with Wireless@SG coverage, he could receive the latest promotions from participating retailers at that level.

IDA Assistant Chief Executive, Infrastructure and Services Development Group, Mr Khoong Hock Yun said, "We're heartened to see that since Wireless@SG's launch in 2006, Singaporeans have become increasingly Internet savvy and at ease with the mobile lifestyle. For every Wireless@SG user, we have noticed a significant increase in usage from a monthly average of 2.1 hours to 6.7 hours per month. These Wireless@SG enhancements will help to further raise the sophisticated use of wireless services among end-users as well as businesses. With the enhanced network and platform, operators and application developers can also introduce more innovative services for consumers and businesses and thus inject even greater vibrancy in Singapore's wireless broadband market."
