Infocomm Resource Centre Set Up to Help People Sector Organisations Enhance Public Outreach and Raise Productivity

27 April 2012 - People Sector Organisations (PSOs) such as Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs), grassroots organisations and community groups can now seek assistance from the People Sector Infocomm Resource Centre (PSIRC), to help enhance their public outreach efforts as well as raise organisational productivity through the use of infocomm technologies.

Singapore, 27 April 2012 | Immediate Release

People Sector Organisations (PSOs) such as Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs), grassroots organisations and community groups can now seek assistance from the People Sector Infocomm Resource Centre (PSIRC), to help enhance their public outreach efforts as well as raise organisational productivity through the use of infocomm technologies. The PSIRC is being set up by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).

Launched today by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports & Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts, the PSIRC will provide face-to-face consultancy services for Infocomm adoption and subsidy schemes. The centre will also provide an online information repository comprising case studies and frameworks as well as best practices and documentation guides as useful references for enhancing productivity and efficiency in work processes, service operations and public engagements. The PSIRC will also host seminars and networking events as a platform for VWOs, grassroots organisations and community groups to meet and share best practices and experiences amongst one another.

"The innovative use of Infocomm has helped many organizations improve their processes and operations, thereby raising productivity and enhancing engagement with their stakeholders and constituents. Through the PSIRC, we hope PSOs like the VWOs, grassroots organizations and community groups can also acquire the necessary infocomm knowledge and skills so that they too can benefit from adopting infocomm. This strategic partnership among NYP, NCSS and IDA to form the PSIRC, combines the technical expertise and community experience required to support the PSOs," said Mr Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive of IDA.

"As a tertiary institution that promotes innovation at every level, Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) is pleased to be a part of this collaboration to establish the People Sector Infocomm Resource Centre (PSIRC). NYP staff and students have developed many innovative solutions for the public, private and people sectors, and these are the results of our strong partnerships with the various organisations. The PSIRC will create more opportunities for NYP to further develop the spirit of enterprise and support the community at large. It is heartening to know that our students and staff will be contributing to such a worthy initiative," said Principal & CEO of Nanyang Polytechnic, Mr Chan Lee Mun.

Ms Ang Bee Lian, CEO of NCSS, said, "The social service sector has increasingly tapped on Infocomm technology to improve productivity and efficiency in the workplace and among partners to deliver quality social services to the community. Through this partnership, NCSS aims to optimise the internal processes of member VWOs as well as increase public access to social services and have closer engagement with the public and stakeholders."

At the PSIRC, organisations can seek technical advisory services to improve their operations. For example, websites can be developed to make them more comprehensive and user friendly. Visitors wishing to apply for assistance or volunteer for projects organised by PSOs, can do this online via more user-friendly websites, taking just a few minutes to fill in and submit a form as compared to physical form submissions. As the employee needs not re-enter the data into a system, this practice saves manpower, prevents data inaccuracy and also enhances green work practices, conserving paper and freeing up stored physical space. Similarly PSOs can learn to create interactive pages in various social media sites to actively engage their audience, disseminate and update information, or network with volunteers and partners in real time.

The PSIRC is located at and managed by the NYP. For more details, please visit www.psirc.sg.
