The Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA) has issued Bloomberg L.P. a Free-To-Air Nationwide Digital Radio Broadcasting Service Licence to broadcast its financial news radio service via Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB).
Broadcast on SmartRadio, Asia's first commercial DAB multiplex Service operated by MediaCorp Radio since November 1999, Bloomberg Radio's 24-hour digital service provides listeners with up-to-the-minute money and market news.
Welcoming Bloomberg's decision to anchor its digital radio service in Singapore, Mr Lim Hock Chuan, CEO of SBA said, "We are very pleased that Bloomberg L.P. has chosen to use Singapore as a launch pad for its digital radio service. It is encouraging to see such keen interest in DAB development in Singapore. As consumers' awareness and acceptance of DAB adoption increases, we hope that other industry players will follow Bloomberg's lead in taking the initiative to deliver more and other exciting DAB services for audiences in Singapore."
SBA, Mr Lim added, will continue to facilitate DAB development by providing support and funding for companies with innovative digital radio projects.
Bloomberg Radio's digital service complements MediaCorp Radio's six other DAB-only radio channels, namely: Cruise, Club Play, Chinese Evergreens, Planet Bollywood, JK-Pop and Symphony. Listeners can receive these services through DAB receiver sets available from Pioneer, JVC, VDO Dayton, Blaunpunkt, Clarion and Kenwood.
