SBA Launches the Second Annual SBA National Scriptwriting Competition

Dated: 13 May 2002

Following the success of the inaugural SBA National Scriptwriting Competition, the Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA), in partnership with MediaCorp TV has launched the second annual SBA National Scriptwriting Competition.

Mr Koh Tin Fook, Deputy CEO and Director, Industry Development of SBA said, "We have a good start, as evidenced by the overwhelming response of 163 entries for the inaugural competition. We want to maintain the momentum, and for the annual competition to become a regular platform for aspiring as well as experienced scriptwriters to showcase their talent and creativity. In the process we hope the competition will contribute significantly to raising the general standard of scriptwriting in Singapore. "

There will be two categories for the competition: drama and documentary. MediaCorp TV Channel 5 is the Official TV Station for the Drama category and MediaCorp TV Arts Central is the official TV Station for the Documentary category.

According to Ms Koh Lee Lian, Senior Assistant Vice President, Central Programming, On-Air Promotions, MediaCorp TV12, "As the Official TV Station for the SBA National Scriptwriting Competition for the second time round, Arts Central hopes to inspire and nurture local talent in the art of documentary scripting with an edge. We look forward to developing the winning documentary scripts into TV programmes to be shown on our channel!"

Ms Alice Tan, Vice President, Network Programming and Promotions 5, MediaCorp TV added, "Channel 5 is very glad to be supporting this competition to unearth writing talents in Singapore. This is certainly a step to help stimulate the growth of the local TV industry. We hope to discover scriptwriters who will one day write scripts that will become programmes that all Singaporeans will be proud of."

The competition is open to all talents in the TV production industry and aspiring scriptwriters based in Singapore. The deadline for submissions for the competition is 30 November 2002. Results of the competition will be announced by March 2003.
