MDA celebrates Singaporeans' creative and innovative spirit with Bright Sparks

Dated: 31 March 2003

The Media Development Authority (MDA) has commissioned a 13-episode info-educational series showcasing the creativity and ingenuity of local inventions.

Entitled Bright Sparks, the new series introduces viewers to a gamut of inventions designed by local inventors to improve the lives of Singaporeans. Among the inventions featured in the series are innovative ideas such as the technocracker - a fireless "firecracker", a "smart" bin that sorts out metal cans from other rubbish and a wearable sleeping bag that makes movement easy. While revealing the stroke of genius behind each creation and the challenges encountered in seeing the inventions come to fruition, the series also looks at what drives ordinary Singaporeans to invent.

Commissioned at $260,000, Bright Sparks is produced by VHQ TV. It will make its debut on Wednesday, 2 April 2003 on Channel NewsAsia at 8.30pm and subsequently every Wednesday till 25 June 2003.
