Fifth Edition Of Asia Pacific Leadership Course Announced

Dated: 7 August 2009

Doug Macnamara and Pat Ferns, the co-principals of the International Institute for Television Leadership (IITL) announced today the dates and location for the fifth edition of their acclaimed Asia Pacific leadership program, which is one of their courses currently offered on four continents.

The Asia-Australia Media Executive Leadership Program (AAMELP) will be presented at The Sentosa Resort in Singapore, November 22-27, 2009. IITL also announced the continuing sponsorship of three important organizations in the region. The co-founding sponsors are ScreenWest, Australia and the Media Development Authority (MDA), Singapore, the latter being this year's host sponsor. They are joined by Screen NSW, which hosted last year's event in Sydney.

Macnamara and Ferns expressed appreciation for this ongoing sponsorship, which enables candidates from Singapore, New South Wales and Western Australia to receive financial support for this important career-enhancing opportunity. IITL is working with the Singapore Media Academy to market AAMELP in the Asia Pacific region.

Dr. Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer of MDA, expressed his pleasure that AAMELP 2009 is being hosted in Singapore. "Enhancing the leadership skills of the people that work in the media industry is a vital part in the journey to develop a new generation of people able to drive the future of this exciting industry." Co-founding sponsor, Ian Booth, Chief Executive of ScreenWest, commented on "the importance of developing international relations between Western Australia and Singapore, as well as other countries in the Asia Pacific, who will be attending AAMELP 2009". Tania Chambers, Chief Executive of Screen NSW (and herself an AAMELP graduate), observed that "leadership is vital to understanding the rapidly changing multi-platform world in which creative and entrepreneurial talent must operate today".

Many of the graduates of the four previous editions of AAMELP are now in senior positions in the media throughout the Asia Pacific region. Case studies, which form a key part of the learning in IITL’s leadership courses, have frequently led to implementation in the real world. These include, in Canada, the re-branding of CBC News;in Germany, the redesign of Discovery's interactive services;in Singapore, the relaunching of MediaCorp's Channel 8;and the emergence of Circling Shark Productions as a player on the national Australian television scene. IITL offers practical tools that can immediately benefit the organizations which send participants.

AAMELP 2009 is conveniently staged on dates between Australia's SPAA conference and the Asia Television Forum in Singapore.
