MDA seeks expressions of interest to operate a FM radio station

Dated: 22 April 2010

The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) seeks expressions of interest to operate a FM radio station on a vacant FM frequency in Singapore that will add diversity and vibrancy to the local radio scene.

MDA welcomes new ideas and does not intend to limit the future station to any particular genre, in order to encourage a variety of proposals and to better gauge market interest in the FM frequency.

MDA will consider launching a formal tender following assessment of the level of interest. Interested parties can register their interest, substantiated by a proposal describing their intended FM station, by 20 May 2010 to MDA_broadcasttv@imda.gov.sg.

FM radio services in Singapore continue to play a significant role in nation building, and serve public and social interests. There are currently four FM radio broadcasters –MediaCorp Radio, SPH UnionWorks, Safra Radio and BBC –offering 18 stations. FM radio services in Singapore are complemented by digital radio services;MediaCorp Radio currently operates five Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB)-only stations, and subscription-based radio operator Rediffusion offers 15 DAB channels.
