Brian is the Senior Vice President and AI CTO at Red Hat. Previously, Brian served as the executive chairman of Neural Magic, a startup founded by a team of professors, research scientists, and former graduate students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who co-innovated to create groundbreaking algorithms to make deep learning on commodity central processing units that outperforms proprietary graphics processing units. (Red Hat acquired Neural Magic in 2025.)

Prior to that, Brian was Vice President and CTO of Google Cloud. He also worked at Red Hat for more than 12 years, most recently as EVP of worldwide engineering and CTO.

Dr. Chen serves as a Distinguished Engineer in the CTO office at Red Hat, where he leads the Red Hat Engineering effort for the LLM-D project. He was a founding member of Kubernetes SIG Storage, shaping cloud-native storage.

Dr. Chen is also the creator of Kepler, recognised as a Fast Company 2024 World Changing Idea, and MicroShift, a CRN 2024 Tech Innovator.

His contributions extend to key open-source projects like Ceph, Knative, and Rook.
