Singapore, 21 February 2006 | For Immediate Release

Since 1 November 2005, all prepaid SIM cards users have been required to re-register their particulars with their respective mobile Service Providers: M1, SingTel or StarHub.

More than 330,000 users have since done so. We urge users who have not re-registered, to do so by 1 May 2006. All unregistered prepaid cards will be deactivated on 2 May 2006. Prepaid SIM card users can register or re-register their card when they next top up the value of the card, at any of the 1,400 retail shops selling prepaid SIM cards of their respective service providers, around Singapore.

As part of the on-going efforts to boost awareness of the need to re-register their prepaid SIM cards, multi-language flyers - in English, Chinese, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Tagalog, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, Sinhala and Burmese - will be distributed at foreign workers? dormitories and placed at the shopfronts of the three Service Providers.

We thank all users who have re-registered your cards. With your co-operation, would-be law-breakers and terrorists are denied the chance to exploit the anonymous use of un-registered prepaid SIM cards for their criminal acts.
