23 November 2011 - The "Capacity Development Workshop on Public Information Management" will be held in Singapore from 28 to 30 November 2011, co-organized by the United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), under the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malaysia.

The "Capacity Development Workshop on Public Information Management" will be held in Singapore from 28 to 30 November 2011, co-organized by the United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), under the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malaysia.

The workshop will be attended by 30 to 40 Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from developing countries in the Asia Pacific region, renowned experts and experienced practitioners both from the governments and the private sector to raise awareness and highlight the importance of Public Information Management and Data Security. The workshop also aims to build capacities of the participants in the areas of policies and strategies for effective public information management and innovative governance. Through this knowledge sharing platform, UNPOG aims to gather contents and information to develop a knowledge guide to assist governments to evaluate and analyze their development status and capacity for public information management and open government data.

The workshop will consist of sessions on introduction to public information management, UNPACS/UNPAN, open government & open government data, data encryption, prevention of cyber attacks, public-private partnership (PPP) for effective public information management, institutional and regulatory framework, case studies and group discussions and reporting.

As concrete deliverables of the meeting, the following outputs are expected:

  1. Accumulated data and information on the most recent trends and challenges of public information management
  2. Guidelines on public information management strategies, institutional and regulatory frameworks and the possible development of a knowledge guide
  3. A listing of regional and national experts in Asia-Pacific with area of public information management and open government data
