Yew Tee constituency named winner in second round of the "Most Fibred-Up Constituency Contest"
Come August, homeowners can look forward to a guide on how they can set up their homes to tap on the ultra high broadband speed delivered over the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN).
Developed by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the guide will offer a summary and comparison of the commonly used options to bringing fibre broadband access to different parts of the house via the Termination Point.
Acting Minister for Community Development, Youths and Sports, and Minister of State for Information, Communication and the Arts, MG(NS) Chan Chun Sing said, "After linking our homes up with the Next Gen NBN, I know that many of us may not know what to do next. Help is at hand as IDA will be distributing a guide to help homeowners decide how they can connect devices in different parts of the house to the fibre broadband. This guide will also complement the suite of other fibre installation-related references published by OpenNet and the Retail Service Providers."
The guide will be made available to the public at IDA's office, the Infocomm Experience Centre (iExperience) and online at IDA's website www.ida.gov.sg. Owners of new flats will receive their copies through the Housing Development Board.
MG(NS) Chan was speaking as the Guest-of-Honour at the prize award ceremony of the second instalment of the "Most Fibred-Up Constituency Contest". Held at the iExperience, Yew Tee constituency was named the winner while Keat Hong constituency was the runner-up. Besides walking away with a plaque each to commemorate their achievement, the two winning constituencies will be awarded prize money totalling $6,000 for use for the purchase of IT hardware, software and/or services for their constituency's IT corner or computer laboratory.
Mr Low Peng Kit, BBM(L), Chairman of Yew Tee constituency Citizen Consultative Committee said, "This award belongs to everyone in the constituency. I thank my fellow grassroots leaders' support and effort in driving the awareness effort and the residents, for giving us the opportunity to explain the benefits of Next Gen NBN to them. I look forward to getting the whole of our constituency fibred-up for the future."
"I would like to share this award with my fellow grassroots leaders and volunteers who have helped explain the benefit of the Next Gen NBN and encourage residents to go for the installation. Despite the little inconvenience caused during installation, residents have set their sights into the future where they can expect benefits from the many future applications that will be delivered over this high speed network. I congratulate them for making this decision and thank them for their support," said Mr Jefferson Neo, PBM, Chairman of Keat Hong constituency Citizen Consultative Committee.
After witnessing the award ceremony, MG(NS) Chan and residents were invited to tour the iExperience and explore some of the possible services that can ride on the Next Gen NBN. The iExperience, opened in June 2010, has undergone a refresh of its exhibits. The interactive and engaging exhibits are designed to educate visitors via hands-on experience the possibilities presented by Next Gen NBN, including possible next gen services leveraging next gen technologies that encompass people's daily lives.
Results for the third round of contest are expected to be announced in second half of 2011. A final grand prize will also be awarded after the network achieves nationwide coverage in mid-2012.
