SBA Promotes Local Broadcasting Industry at BroadcastAsia 2001

The Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA) is, for the fourth time running, participating in BroadcastAsia, Asia's leading international broadcasting and multimedia exhibition. The exhibition, to be held at Singapore Expo in Changi from 19 to 22 June 2001, will showcase products and services belonging to more than 600 companies from 41 countries. SBA will be taking the lead to facilitate and feature innovative and cutting-edge broadcasting technologies and expertise from Singapore through different activities at:

The Singapore Pavilion
To showcase a list of innovative broadcasting services in Singapore, SBA together with its industry partners, is organising a 120-square metre Singapore Pavilion at BroadcastAsia2001. The theme is "Singapore - The Premier Broadcasting Hub". The Singapore Pavilion will feature displays such as Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) hardware and applications, satellite video uplink/downlink services, webcasting and digital multimedia broadcast services, and innovative software and tools for Digital TV (DTV).

The participating companies at the Singapore Pavilion, apart from SBA, are Plexus Multimedia, Digital Wireless Systems, CET Technologies, WaveNewWorld, Asia Broadcast Centre, Pixelmetrix Corporation, dtvTech Research &Consulting and AlternateTV.com. The profiles of these participating companies are attached in Annex A.

On Singapore's strong presence at BroadcastAsia2001, Mr Lim Hock Chuan, Chief Executive Officer, SBA, said, "BroadcastAsia2001 is recognised and endorsed by the industry as Asia's main broadcasting event and our participation underscores our effort to position Singapore as the premier broadcasting hub of the region. This is exemplified by the wide array of broadcasting services Singapore has to offer, cutting across the entire value chain of broadcasting."

Fronting the Singapore Pavilion, the SBA booth will promote Singapore as a broadcast hub and will feature DAB and DTV applications as a continued effort to promote the implementation of these two technologies in Singapore. One of the highlights at the SBA booth will be the showcase of interactive content available through DTV.

SBA will also be featuring the Asia DAB Committee, a non-profit association that works with the World DAB Forum to promote the implementation of DAB projects and services in Asia. Those who join as Asia DAB Committee members will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and information on DAB matters through forums, events, projects and other means. Members will also enjoy other benefits including access to valuable strategic information, preferential rates for attending events and forums organised by the Committee and privileges accorded to World DAB Forum members.

CEO Roundtable 2001 for broadcasters
SBA is the supporter for the CEO Roundtable 2001, organised by the publication Asia Pacific Broadcasting, and is held in conjunction with BroadcastAsia2001. The theme for the CEO Roundtable is "Enhanced &Interactive TV". Mr Lim Hock Chuan, CEO, SBA, will launch the CEO Roundtable on 19 June 2001. Some 25 chief executives from leading broadcasting organisations in the Asia-Pacific region will attend the session, to hear and to learn from each other.

Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Conference : "The Business of Digital Audio Broadcasting - Opportunities For All"
The SBA-lead Asia DAB Committee will be fronting a half-day conference on 21 June 2001, titled "The Business of Digital Audio Broadcasting -- Opportunities for All". The conference will be part of the overall BroadcastAsia2001 International Conference organised by the Singapore Exhibition Services (SES) in association with the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), London.

The Conference will be chaired by Mr Koh Tin Fook, Deputy CEO and Director (Industry Development), SBA. Leading DAB stalwarts from various parts of the world, including Mr Michael McEwen from the World DAB Forum;Mr Jeff Astle from Digital One;Mr Asaad Sameer Bagharib from Mediacorp Radio;and other players from USA, UK, Taiwan and Singapore, will share their experiences on real-life business cases and discuss the business opportunities and revenue potential from DAB technology. The conference represents a continuous effort to promote and facilitate the development of DAB in the Asia-Pacific region.

Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) - Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) Seminar

On 22 June 2001, the DVB-MHP Seminar and Dot.Com Workshop will be held under the umbrella of Data Broadcasting. It is the first time that such a seminar is organised in the Asia-Pacific region. Presenting the welcome address at the DVB-MHP Seminar will be the Guest of Honour, Mr Lim Hock Chuan, CEO, SBA.

SBA is proud to be supporting this seminar which brings MHP expertise to the region. MHP is an open standard which enables a single set-top box to access the services of multiple broadcasters.

The DVB-MHP Seminar will also feature heavyweights from the European industry who are at the forefront of MHP developments, such as Mr Wilfried Geuen from Panasonic AVC European Laboratory, Mr Rainer Schaefer from Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT), and Mr Peter MacAvock from DVB Project Office.

Asian Television Creative &Technical Awards 2001
SBA is also one of the supporter and sponsor for the new Asian Television Creative and Technical Awards 2001. Television Asia is launching the awards for the first time at BroadcastAsia2001 on 20 June 2001. The new awards will recognise creative talents and technical experts in broadcast, production and post-production. SBA is sponsoring the "Best of Show Award" that will be given to the best overall entry.

ComGraph 2001
Held in conjunction with BroadcastAsia2001 for the second time is ComGraph 2001, a regional computer graphics and animation competition that is also supported by SBA. Organised by the Siggraph Singapore Chapter, ComGraph 2001 will showcase the best digital art and animation in the Asia Pacific Region on 21 June 2001.
