First MDA-Supported Drama Series On Channel i Coming Your Way

Dated: 17 April 2004

Romance, heartwarming stories of kinship and a dash of mystery. These are the ingredients of Perceptions, the first local drama series commissioned by the Media Development Authority (MDA) to be served on Channel i.

A concoction which promises to whet Singaporeans' viewing appetite, the 13-part one hour drama series is centred around a love affair between two protagonists - Geri Lee and Djin Wong - who come from two very different social and family backgrounds. A journalist, Geri dislikes rich people, while Djin, a tycoon's son, believes that the rich should marry those from the same social background. The two meet under the most unlikely of circumstances and overcome the odds to fall in love. The plot thickens when Geri finds out that the person who injuured her sister Priscilla in a hit-and-run incident is linked to Djin and his family. More than just a contemporary love story, Perceptions also deals with issues such as addiction to gambling, breast cancer and love in the third age.

The drama series features familiar faces on local television such as Stephanie Song, Channel U's Eelyn Kok and Silvester Loo as well as new faces like Timothy Nga and David Leong.

Said Ms Amy Chua, Director of Media Content at the MDA, "This is the first English drama series we are supporting on Channel i and we are very pleased with the quality of Perceptions. We hope that this will lead to more quality local dramas on the channel."

Produced by the independent production company, Ochre Pictures, Perceptions was funded at a cost of $715,000.

Catch Perceptions every Wednesday at 9.00pm on Channel i starting 21 April.
