Be Inspired at Asia's Leading Media Event

Dated: 2 November 2006

This November, the world’s leading media companies will converge in Singapore at the Asia Media Festival 2006 (AMF). From 13 November to 1 December 2006, AMF 2006 will play host to over 600,000 local and international visitors who are mainly from the television, broadcasting, film, animation, advertising and digital media industries.

AMF 2006 maintains strong participation from the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe, and includes the inaugural participation of all four major Korean broadcasters - Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS). For the first time, Taiwan will also be participating with a ""Taiwan Animation Pavilion"". AMF 2006 will also see a significant increase in participation from Central and Eastern Europe, with companies like Mosfilm Cinema Concern, Kazakh Cinema Distribution and RUSCICO (Russian Cinema Council) participating for the first time. (Please see Appendix B for a list of participants).

Now into its fifth year, this annual festival, hosted by the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore and organised by Reed Exhibitions, presents an inspiring line-up of events for both the trade and public through an array of workshops, conferences and exhibitions. AMF is designed to encompass the whole value chain of the media business, from media financing, production, to distribution.

In a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers entitled “Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2006 - 2010”, the media and entertainment industry in Asia Pacific is estimated to have grown 8.2 percent in 2005. From 2006 - 2010, the Asia Pacific region is expected to grow at a compounded basis of 9.2 percent, and Singapore, at a compounded basis of 5.2 percent.

“Singapore is well-positioned to benefit from the strong growth in Asia Pacific’s media and entertainment industry. As the local media industry makes larger strides in the global arena, MDA continues to build on the momentum of our Media 21 blueprint to grow the industry. AMF is an important event in fulfilling MDA’s strategy to develop Singapore into a global media city. It is a key event to boost Singapore as Asia's media marketplace drawing thousands of international media players,” said Mr Michael Yap, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, MDA.

“Singapore is ideally positioned as a media marketplace, particularly, as the springboard for Asian content to be showcased to international media players, and for non-Asian media content to be promoted and distributed to a burgeoning Asian market of media consumers. The stellar list of returning and new international media companies at AMF 2006 augurs well for the growing stature of the event,” he added.

The industry-specific conferences, exhibitions, workshops and networking sessions under AMF include:-
A) Asia Television Forum (ATF)
B) Asia Film Market and Conference (AFMC)
C) Asia Animation Conference (AAN)
