Singapore and Western Australia announce two new cross-media co-productions

Dated: 21 June 2011

ScreenWest, Western Australia's screen funding and development agency and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) today announced two cross-media projects selected from the third edition of the MDA-ScreenWest Cross-Media Development Initiative. Each project will receive US$30,000 in development funding, split between the Singaporean and Australian co-development partners.

Now in its third year, the MDA-ScreenWest Cross-Media Development Initiative encourages producers in the two territories to jointly co-develop visual narrative concepts for emerging new media channels, including but not limited to interactive television, web and mobile devices. The joint Call-for-Proposals for the Initiative was announced at MIPCOM 2010 in Cannes.

The two winning projects are:

The Adventures of Bradley
The Adventures of Bradley is an informative and exciting interactive pre-school animation series exploring traditional folk tales from around the world. It will be developed by Western Australian company RKPix with Singapore partner, August Media Holdings.

Preseason
Western Australian company WBMC teamed up with the Singapore-based Interactive SG to devise Preseason, an integrated documentary and interactive experience that goes behind the scenes as professional athletes prepare for a new season of their chosen sport. The interactive programme offers viewers a unique insight into what it takes to succeed at an elite sporting level, as well as allowing them to train alongside their heroes.

“Changing media consumption habits has made cross-media content more relevant than ever. We are delighted to see the Initiative continuing to attract exciting proposals in its third edition. We congratulate the winners and look forward to see their innovative ideas come alive,” said Mr Yeo Chun Cheng, Director of Broadcast, Animation, Film and Music, MDA.

Mr Ian Booth, ScreenWest’s Chief Executive said the latest round strengthened the important relationship between the funding agencies and digital producers in both territories.

The Adventures of Bradley and Preseason are two very strong, compelling projects with well-matched teams,” Mr Booth said. “Transmedia is an exciting way through which to explore and experiment with new ways of storytelling and audience engagement. It will be exciting to see the projects develop further as teach team brings their diverse ideas, skills and experiences to the project.”
