TeSA Mid-Career Advance

To provide opportunities for Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above to be reskilled or upskilled while holding a tech-related job, IMDA has partnered 9 companies to launch TeSA Mid-Career Advance.

With about 500 tech job roles available, the new programme under the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) initiative will hire and train mid-career professionals for in-demand tech roles, regardless whether the individual has an ICT background.

Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to Singapore Citizens who fulfil the following criteria:

  • Be at least 40 years old
  • Possess a keen interest to pursue a career in tech
  • Commit to completing the full training programme
  • Meet the hiring requirements of the companies

Individuals with no prior tech experience are welcome to apply, subject to certain job roles where some tech experience may be required.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I apply for the programme and what do I need to provide?

Individuals who wish to apply for the job roles can view full list of job roles HERE and apply to the companies directly.

The application requirements differ from job roles and companies. All required information is stated on the company’s job listing page. 

 

2. What type of job roles are available under the programme?

A wide variety of tech job roles including business analyst, project manager, sales specialist, cybersecurity engineer, software developer and data analyst are available under the programme. 

 

3. How will I benefit from the programme?

Trainees will gain employment and receive a salary while being equipped with in-demand tech skills. Under the programme, they will also get to work on projects guided by experienced mentors, gain in-depth industry exposure, and enhance their employability and career pathways in tech roles.

 

4. What is the training pathway like for the trainees?

Trainees will undergo structured classroom trainings in various technologies to build up their tech knowledge, and apply their learnings through on-the-job training, where they will get the opportunity to be involved in industry projects to build up their practical experience in ICT. 

 

5. I have met all eligibility criteria as stated on the website, does that mean I will automatically qualify for the programme?

All applications are subject to the company’s review and evaluation. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified by the company. 

 

6. When will I know if I am selected for the programme?

All applications are subject to the company’s review and evaluation. Companies will reach out to shortlisted candidates directly. Please note that only selected candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application. 

 

7. What is the expected duration of the programme?

The training duration is dependent on the complexity and skills required for each specific job role, and may last up to 24 months. The actual start date will be agreed upon between the successful applicant and the company, as stated on the employment contract.

The successful applicant should commit to the start and end date that has been agreed upon in the employment contract and undergo the programme to the best of his/her abilities. 

 

8. If my application is successful, do I have to give up my current job to join the programme?

Yes. This programme is a full-time programme. The successful applicant will sign an employment contract with the company before the commencement of the programme. 

 

9. Will I receive a salary and how much will it be?

Trainees will receive a monthly salary that will commensurate with the trainee’s relevant experience and job role. 

 

10. What if I decide to drop out of TeSA Mid-Career Advance after starting the programme?

Should a trainee decide to drop out of the programme after starting the programme, the stipulated terms in the employment contract as agreed between the trainee and the company will apply. 

Termination by the trainees is not encouraged, as the programme is an opportunity for each trainee to gain competencies for in-demand tech roles. IMDA and the company have invested substantial resources to ensure that the trainee benefits from the programme. Therefore, it is important for each trainee to complete the programme. 

 

11. If the training programme start date has not commenced, can I withdraw from the programme without any penalty?

Should a trainee decide to withdraw from the training programme before the training programme start date, the stipulated terms in the employment contract as agreed between the trainee and the company will apply. 

Withdrawal by trainees is not encouraged, as the programme is an opportunity for each trainee to gain competencies for in-demand tech roles. IMDA and the company have invested substantial resources to ensure that the trainee benefits from the programme. Therefore, it is important for each trainee to complete the programme. 

 

12. Will I be guaranteed a permanent job after the completion of programme?

The objective of the programme is to enable Singaporean professionals aged 40 and above to stay employed while being reskilled or upskilled via a company-hosted On-the-Job Training (OJT).

IMDA encourages participating companies to consider hiring suitable trainees after the programme period. Even if they are not hired by the companies at the end of the training period, the trainees who have completed the programme would have gained invaluable work experience and in-demand tech skills which will prepare them for future roles. For trainees who are not offered employment by their host company after their training, IMDA will work with career centres to help facilitate job placements with other companies.

 

13. Will there be support to help me find jobs if I am not offered employment by my host company after my training?

IMDA will work with career centres and individuals to help with the facilitation of job placement for trainees who are looking at employment opportunities with other companies. Trainees may also approach career centres to find suitable employment opportunities.

 

14. When do applications close?

Applications close when all the job roles offered by the participating companies have been filled.
