Being able to tell original, compelling stories is a key capability in an evolving and competitive infocomm media landscape. The Story Lab initiative aims to bring together talent from different backgrounds to incubate story ideas and explore innovative ways to tell stories across various media platforms, from film to broadcast and even games.

As media platforms converge, storytelling skills are needed more than ever. With a more diverse and competitive media landscape, content must have a compelling story or message to capture audience’s attention. Story Lab will not only foster an appreciation of storytelling as a fundamental skill, but also aims to build capabilities in story ideation, research and development, as well as scriptwriting for different formats.

Story Lab will:

  1. Provide a physical space to craft stories and concepts;
  2. Bring industry players such as story originators, writers, and producers together to incubate original story ideas and experiment with new ways of storytelling; and
  3. Raise the value of storytelling among students and the public.

For media professionals and emerging talent

  • Annual calls for stories where selected story originators and scriptwriters will develop their scripts under the stewardship of established local or overseas experts
  • Networking events for the industry to incubate story ideas and explore collaborations
  • Workshops on latest media trends such as data analytics, transmedia and crowd-funding, and
  • A repository for stories and scripts developed via the Story Lab's initiatives that will be accessible to selected production houses, investors, producers and directors.

For primary and secondary school students

  • Enrichment programmes to provide mentorship to primary school students to develop their stories for publication; and
  • Workshops for secondary school students to hone their communication skills through storytelling. 

For the general public

  • Workshops and seminars on storytelling to raise awareness on utilising stories and media platforms in their communications and businesses.
