Given the cross-cutting nature of the ETA review and in view of the requests from industry players, IMDA has extended the submission deadline for this consultation to 12 noon, 27 November 2019.

In view of requests from the industry for more time to submit their views and comments, IMDA has extended the submission deadline for this consultation to 12 noon, 27 September 2019.

IMDA is reviewing the Electronic Transactions Act (ETA), to ensure it continues to be progressive, facilitate innovation in the Digital Economy, strengthen Singapore’s position as a hub for electronic transactions, and support Digital Government efforts. The ETA review will:

 

  1. Enable more transactions under the ETA, including property transactions, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and negotiable instruments such as bills of lading;
  2. Offer certainty on the use of technologies such as Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), Smart Contracts and Biometrics; and
  3. Updating the Certification Authority (CA) framework to ensure currency with latest international standards.
