JAN & FEB 16 ISSUE 32
Dear friends and colleagues,
Happy New Year! I hope 2016 has started well for all of you!
I would like to share an exciting new development for MDA and what you can expect from us this year.
The Ministry of Communications and Information recently announced the re-structuring of MDA and the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) into two new agencies: (a) the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) and (b) the Government Technology Organisation (GTO). This re-structuring aims to help the government respond better to a rapidly converging infocomms and media landscape – a trend which all of you are more than familiar with.
The new IMDA will develop and regulate the infocomm media sector. IMDA will streamline the regulations for telecommunications and Pay-TV licensees, and regulate content to uphold our community standards and social norms. IMDA will also implement the Infocomm Media 2025 Plan, to create a vibrant infocomm media sector with good jobs for all. The new GTO will lead the public sector’s digital transformation. It will focus on enhancing digital services and making them as user-friendly as possible. GTO will also oversee the cybersecurity needs of our government infrastructure. IMDA and GTO will be established in the second half of 2016.
I am honoured to lead the IMDA, and will continue to work with all of you to take the infocomm media sector into an exciting future. I assure you that we will continue to support the media industry and the people in it, to create even more compelling Singapore-made content for the world. I hope that you will continue to support me in this shared endeavour.
I wish all of you health, success and happiness in the year of the Monkey!
With warm regards,
