It was a jubilant affair at the official opening of the newly built MediaCorp Campus in One-North on 8 December 2015. More than 1,000 guests attended the event, which was officiated by Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong and graced by Minister for Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, and Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Health, Mr Chee Hong Tat. Prime Minister Lee shared his aspirations for the national broadcaster, “You must continue to produce programmes that celebrate our culture and heritage, reflect our society and values, educate and entertain your audiences, as well as report news and produce current affairs content which matter for Singaporeans and which are compelling to watch.”
Guests who attended the opening ceremony were also treated to a live show in The Theatre – a 1,500-seat performing arts venue. Performances by international stars included Japan’s Drum Tao and USA’s Redfoo, as well as extracts of the Australian production of Les Misérables. Local acts included a skit by the cast of The Noose and performances by singer-songwriter, Inch Chua.
The Theatre is one of many state-of-the-art facilities that the 800,000 sq ft campus has. Come April, Mediacorp will open its doors to the public with studio tours and free-roam zones, where the public may catch a glimpse of a drama production and see their favourite stars in action. The venue also boasts a digital-first integrated newsroom, four entertainment studios, and an open-plan office concept which provides the best use of space for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and creativity among staff.
