SINGAPORE – 01 APR 2026

1. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) announced today that Ms Denise Wong has been appointed as Commissioner of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) with effect from 1 April 2026. She will continue to serve concurrently as Assistant Chief Executive, Data Innovation and Protection Group (DIPG) at the IMDA.

2. As Commissioner of PDPC, Ms Wong will lead the development and execution of PDPC's strategic direction. In addition to overseeing all regulatory and enforcement decisions of the PDPC, she will advise the Government on data protection matters and lead the Commission to represent the Government internationally on matters relating to data protection.

3. Ms Wong has served as Deputy Commissioner of PDPC from 1 July 2023.  Besides overseeing the administration and enforcement of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), she was instrumental in the formulation and implementation of policies that advance the responsible use of data.  This includes the establishment of the Data Protection Trustmark as part of the national Singapore Standards, and the innovative use of regulatory sandboxes to support businesses to experiment with emerging technologies such as privacy-enhancing technologies, while ensuring the protection of data.

4. Internationally, she supported close collaboration with data protection authorities around the world. Ms Wong was key to the Commission becoming a member of the Global Privacy Assembly, chairing the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities Forum, and contributing substantively to the ASEAN Data Protection and Privacy Forum. Some notable outcomes from these international collaborations include the enhancement of ASEAN’s partnerships with the European Commission and the Ibero-American Data Protection Network on the use of the ASEAN Model Contractual Clauses to facilitate trusted data flows between ASEAN and these regions.

5. As Assistant Chief Executive, DIPG, IMDA, Ms Wong will continue to oversee Singapore's data and AI governance policies and ecosystem development.
