300 tech job opportunities with international exposure for Singaporeans via IMDA-Visa partnership

Local graduates from ITE, Polytechnic and University, as well as mid-career professionals will gain experience working on Visa’s global payments network through a 12-month work and study- programme

SINGAPORE – 04 NOV 2022

The Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) in partnership with Visa, and supported by Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), will be offering up to 300 job opportunities for Singaporeans to gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge in payments.  This will be done via the Visa Technology Traineeship Programme, supported by IMDA’s TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA), that will provide new hires with a 12-month work and study programme where they will train as System Analysts, Test Engineers or Cybersecurity Analysts.

Global exposure to Visa’s products and services

Trainees will go through 6 months of classroom training with the National University of Singapore Institute of Systems Science and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, as well as 6 months of on-the-job training with Visa.  During the period of on-the-job training, trainees will have the opportunity to work alongside a pool of Visa Technology experts.  They will also be able to apply their knowledge from the classroom to solve real world problems through hands-on experience working on Visa’s global products and services.

The training aims to provide trainees with exposure to the fintech industry and deepen their technical skillsets to take up related tech jobs in any industry.  All trainees who successfully complete the programme will also be awarded a Professional Diploma in Software Development or a Specialist Diploma in Cybersecurity Practice, awarded by the National University of Singapore Institute of Systems Science and Ngee Ann Polytechnic respectively.  To date, 116 trainees have signed up for the Visa Technology Traineeship Programme since the initial pilot launch in Feb 2022.  In line with IMDA’s efforts via the TeSA for ITEs and Polytechnics Alliance to place and train ITE and polytechnic graduates with tech qualifications, about 70, or one in four places are expected to be for polytechnic or ITE graduates.

Mr Kiren Kumar, Deputy Chief Executive, IMDA said, “I am glad that companies like Visa have partnered IMDA to equip Singaporeans with tech skills and global experiences. With more than 1,000 fintech firms in Singapore, these trainees will be in good stead to take up jobs in Visa and the wider digital economy. I look forward to more companies working with us to help Singaporeans seize such opportunities.”

Goki Muthusamy, SVP and Head of People Team, Visa Asia Pacific said, “Singapore has been home to Visa in Asia Pacific for more than four decades, and one of the biggest attractions of situating our regional headquarters here is the quality of the talent pool. As technology becomes a vital sector for the Singapore economy, it is important for the private and public sectors to collaborate to train Singaporeans to take on increasingly sophisticated jobs in the industry. With the support of the Infocomm Media Development Authority, the Visa Technology Traineeship Program delivers critical reskilling and upskilling opportunities so Singaporeans can be well-equipped for technology careers today and in the future.”

In partnership with industry partners, TeSA has placed and trained over 12,000 aspiring professionals into tech jobs and upskilled another 160,000 through tech courses and certifications.
