The story unfolds in 1956, with Kheong who moves to Singapore from Malaysia, to train as a film projectionist. He meets Lee who becomes his mentor and also falls in love with Wei, a Chinese teacher who is torn between her role as a daughter and her love for Kheong. The couple faces various obstacles, preventing them from being together. The film explores themes of nostalgia and sentimentality intertwined with romance, comedy and pragmatism. It is an ode to young love and the power of cinema, and a man’s pursuit of “the rainbow”.
