Built Environment

The Built Environment (BE) cluster comprises industries such as Construction, Facilities Management, Real Estate, Security, and Environmental Services (e.g. Cleaning, Waste & Pest Management).

IMDA works with the industry and other government agencies to support digitalization of the BE cluster to raise the digital maturity and productivity of companies. Through innovation and adoption of digital technology for building construction and maintenance, companies will be better equipped to redesign business and operating processes, optimize resources and capture higher value business opportunities.

To foster greater resilience, and a smarter and more sustainable BE sector, IMDA will put in place initiatives and ecosystems for BE companies to tap opportunities in Smart Estates and Sustainability.

Construct

IMDA aims to level up and build digital capabilities in the construction industry through adoption of integrated digital technology to improve collaboration and competitive advantage.

IMDA and BCA launched a joint Call for Submission (CFS) for digital platforms [Closed] for the construction sector to enable construction firms to digitalise and accelerate their efforts towards the Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) vision. Click here for more information on the Construction Digital Platform launched in March 2020.

IMDA intends to support the Construction sector to uncover potential in leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AI & DA) to improve contractors’ internal processes in project and site management, through a Call for Proposal (CFP) [Closed].

Manage

Through adoption of digital technology, sectors such as Facilities Management, Security and Environmental Services will be able to transform and elevate their current workflow and operating models towards integrated service delivery and optimize resource consumption.

IMDA has launched the Smart Estates Technology Call for Innovative Solutions (CFIS) [Closed] to create opportunities for Singapore-based technology providers, developers and BE companies such as security and cleaning service providers, to co-develop and trial estate-level projects in Singapore. For more information, refer to the 13 awarded companies.

In tandem with the SG2030 GreenPlan to advance Singapore’s national agenda on sustainable development, IMDA has launched a Playbook (Digital Tech for Sustainability – In Building Management) and a Tech for Sustainability Toolkit, developed together with BCA and industry partners, to help SMEs in the BE sector kick-start their sustainability journey.

Tailored specific to SMEs in the business of building operations and management, which can include building owners, building managers and facility management operators, the Playbook and Toolkit aim to drive awareness on the importance of sustainability, guide adoption of digital technology to achieve sustainability outcomes, and help companies understand state of readiness for sustainability.

Other Resources

To support enterprises in adoption of advanced and integrated digital solutions in the BE sector, IMDA has curated and onboarded solutions (e.g. digital procurement, autonomous surveillance, building management, construction safe-restart & resilience) under the Advanced Digital Solutions (ADS) programme.

IMDA has formed strategic public-private partnerships to strengthen the Smart Estates ecosystem. An example is the Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab, Southeast Asia’s first industry-led lab for smart cities solutions development, initiated by CapitaLand and supported by IMDA and ESG, to bring together leaders in the smart cities space to co-create and test innovations with local built environment and technology enterprises in a live environment at CapitaLand’s 5G-enabled Singapore Science Park. The lab has been launched in Oct 2020.

IMDA and SSG, in collaboration with BCA, has also introduced the Smart Estates Talent Development Programme (SETDP) to envision the future jobs, skills and competencies, and talent pipeline needed to support the Smart Estates ecosystem of tomorrow.
