To ensure that Singapore will be able to realise significant economic benefits from the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network ("Next Gen NBN"), IDA has put in place a multi-layered industry structure, initially consisting of a network company, a number of operating companies and numerous retail service providers.

These Guidelines serve to enhance the robustness of the subscriber verification processes of telecommunication operators, to mitigate the risks of identity theft. Operators should review and tighten existing processes to protect consumers from unauthorised and fraudulent access of their accounts.

Internet Access Service Providers are automatically class-licensed under the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification of the Broadcasting Act 1994. They are required to register with IMDA within 14 days of the provision of their service, and provide a 14-day written notice to IMDA prior to the termination of their services.

The Internet Code of Practice which falls under the Broadcasting Act (Cap. 28), outlines the content standards for Internet content.

Internet Content Providers, including those providing Internet radio services, are automatically class-licensed under the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification of the Broadcasting Act (Chapter 28), and are thus automatically subject to comply with the Class Licence Conditions.
